PAVLOK BUG FIX STORY:

DEC 2022
Explaining the extension issue

Extension was connected to Staging server which is connected to Staging DB
This caused two issues :

  1. Users who signed up after we did the backup of Prod DB to Staging DB, couldn’t sign in because their users simply don’t exist in the staging DB

  2. Users who could login, had an issue sending stimulus to their device because the FCM token used to send the push notification (saved by the app) was on the prod DB and not staging DB so no stimulus was being sent

The fix we did :

  • Connected Staging server to Production DB, right now all users have access to their accounts and can send stimulus

  • Updated the extension to use Production server and submitted to Google

When the users update their extension they wouldn’t see any change and wouldn’t have to do anything else as we just changed the server but DB for both is Prod DBWhy didn’t we detect this before;

  • Everyone who tested the extension has tested the Flutter app before which means that his credentials and FCM tokens were saved already in the staging server so it was working fine

  • The freelancer that developed this extension changed the server to production as I requested from him in an earlier build but for some reason in the latest build he sent us it was changed back to staging server which cause this issue

We are rebuilding the extension for the Chrome Store.
For now, you can manually install the extension to Chrome.

2) Follow the instructions on manual installation from this link

The Pavlok Productivity extension will help you set your goals for the day and stay on task. Quit browsing time-wasting sites, stop opening too many tabs, and create a to-do list that you will actually do. The Pavlok Productivity extension is designed to be your digital accountability partner, keeping you on track to achieve your productivity goals.

FEATURES:

Blacklist unproductive sites: Tired of wasting time online, but don’t realize when you’re mindlessly browsing? Feel powerless to stop that urge to check just one...more...status update? The blacklist feature allows you to alert you when you visit a blacklisted site. Whenever you visit a blacklisted site you’ll receive a notification that you shouldn’t be there, reminding you to get off of it. If you have a Pavlok, you can set it up to automatically zap you if you don’t leave quickly enough!

Here's a productivity extension user who reduced their time-wasting behavior:

Create a to-do list that you’ll actually do: Use the integrated to-do list to map out your tasks for the day, and then use the pomodoro timer feature to set a timer for each task. Complete more by breaking your task into manageable chunks of time that help you focus intensely. If you’re a Pavlok user, connect your Pavlok to get a vibration when you complete your task!

Stay focused on the task at hand with tab limits: Too many tabs open = lack of focus. Prevent yourself from wandering off task with another browser window by setting a tab limit, and receive a warning notification if you open too many tabs. If you’re a Pavlok user, you can set the chrome extension to zap you when you open too many tabs!

Rescuetime integration: If you’re already familiar with RescueTime you already know where this is going, but for those that are not: RescueTime is a tool that tracks what sites and programs you use throughout the day. You tell it what is productive activity and what is not, and it will give you a “productivity score” based on what programs you run and the sites you visit throughout the day. There’s no cheating with RescueTime! We’ve integrated the Pavlok Chrome Extension with RescueTime to alert you when your productivity falls below a certain level – and if it gets low enough (and you have a Pavlok connected) you get zapped!

Auto-zap: Working on breaking a bad habit that is "offline"? We've added a bonus feature for Pavlok users: auto-zap! Set a timer for how long you want to do a training session, and how often you want to be zapped. Then just click go and you can walk away while the extension automatically administers zaps to your Pavlok. Perfect if you're stepping outside for a cigarette or snacking on sweets away from your computer and you want to have Pavlok automatically help you build an aversion to that habit. Habits that this works very well for include nail biting, hair pulling (trichotillomania) and unhealthy eating. Just set the timer, perform your behavior and Pavlok will help you build an aversion to that bad habit!
