Shock Clock Max - Nap
This function is designed to help you have a nap of a planned length. It watches to see if you are asleep or not, and after the desired time asleep, it triggers an alarm to wake you.
The minimum nap length (the Duration) is 20 minutes (mainly because we take almost that long to determine for sure if you are asleep or not). Typical advice on optimum naps lengths is usually no more than 45 minutes.
The function also let’s you specify how long you are allowed to spend trying to fall asleep (the Asleep by time). If you have not fallen asleep in that length of time, it fires the alarm and ends. The minimum Asleep by time probably needs to be at least 5 min so you can get listed as dozing (precursor to sleep). Currently set to 20 min.
So the maximum time the nap period is allowed to take is Asleep by + Duration. Note that there is some flexibility in the assessment of sleep, so times can potentially vary by a few minutes.
Once you are asleep and after the Asleep by time, if you wake up for any reason, even before the Duration has expired, the alarm will go off and the nap will terminate. Many alarm options are available to be set (e.g. button/JJ, snooze, snooze-zap, Smart). In future, app-based options should also be available.
What if you wake up in the middle of your nap? Just wake up and quit? Let you try to get the rest of the nap? We can’t let you try to get a single full nap still, because then you go over the implied max time limit.
Screen display is minimal so we don’t distract people while trying to nap. You won’t sleep if you keep checking on how it is going….
