PALVOK STORY:

Overall Sleep Score
Your overall score is a carefully balanced mix of the above factors. We give the most weight to sleep duration, followed by sleep composition, and then the impact of rest interruptions. This weighted approach ensures a comprehensive evaluation of your sleep, highlighting the importance of not only the quantity but also the quality and continuity of your rest.

Sleep Duration Score
Your sleep duration is a key factor in your overall sleep score. Adults typically need 7 to 9 hours of sleep to feel refreshed. We adjust your score based on how close you are to this ideal range, taking into account variations by age. Rest assured, we account for the natural differences in sleep needs between teenagers, young adults, adults, and older adults.

Sleep Composition Score
Your Sleep Composition Score is derived from how your sleep is divided into three critical phases: Deep Sleep, REM Sleep, and Light Sleep. Each phase has its unique benefits and an ideal percentage of your total sleep time that varies by age group:

  • Deep Sleep is crucial for physical recovery, immune system strengthening, and energy restoration. It’s the most restorative phase, and deviations from the ideal percentage can significantly impact your score.

  • REM Sleep is essential for brain functions like memory consolidation, learning, and emotional regulation. It plays a pivotal role in your mental health and cognitive abilities.

  • Light Sleep acts as a transitional phase, helping your body prepare for the deep and REM stages. While it’s less restorative, it still constitutes a significant portion of your sleep cycle, offering its own set of benefits for brain and body recovery.

Ideal Sleep Composition Percentages by Age

  • Teenagers: Deep Sleep (15%), REM Sleep (20%), Light Sleep (65%).

  • Young Adults: Deep Sleep (20%), REM Sleep (20%), Light Sleep (60%).

  • Adults: Deep Sleep (20%), REM Sleep (25%), Light Sleep (55%).

  • Older Adults: Deep Sleep (10%), REM Sleep (15%), Light Sleep (75%).

These percentages guide the calculation of your Sleep Composition Score, with adjustments made based on how closely your actual sleep mirrors these ideals.

Rest Interruptions Score
A few interruptions during the night are normal, but too many or too long can hinder your sleep quality. We measure how these moments impact your sleep, focusing on both the duration of awakenings and the number of times you wake up. Fewer and shorter interruptions lead to a higher score.
